Crawter's Brook, The People's Park - Phase II

Crawter's Brook, The People's Park - Phase II

LOST WOODLAND GALLERY

Crawter’s Brook Peoples Park is already a well used and well loved special place within Manor Royal.

Improvements made to Crawter’s Brook back in 2017 were founded on sense of place, access to nature and providing a connection between Manor Royal and Gatwick Road and Fleming Way.

The intent of the 'Lost Woodland Gallery' is to use public art to inform further improvements within the centre of this People’s Park, complimenting the previous enhancements and in keeping with the distinctive character and
sense of place and to encourage more people to visit and move through the People’s Park as well as helping tell the Manor Royal story and link to the Heritage and Arts trail.

PUBLIC ARTWORK

A collection of three bespoke sculptures created by Artist Andrew Mckeown are the first phase of delivering the
Lost Woodland Gallery.

  • The Green Lung sculpture is a striking synthesis of nature and human biology. It takes the shape of a human lung and this is fused with tree root, branch and trunk forms and the veins and arteries of a lung are replaced with roots or branches.
  • The Propelling Nature sculpture is a clear reference to Manor Royal’s aviation heritage and the early propeller shape has been merged with the shape of a natural Sycamore seed. It is hoped the viewer will be prompted to consider Manor Royals aviation history and the natural importance of Crawters Brook, nestled within the industry and development of Manor Royal Business District.
  • The Crawter’s Molecules sculpture is a hybrid piece that also incorporates the theme of science, a reference to the prevalence of science based businesses within Manor Royal. The overall shape of the sculpture takes the form of a simple molecular structure, a recognisable symbol of science and experimentation.

Work starts on-site on 6 October 2025 and ends 17 November.
