The Manor Royal BID is excited to be working with Hemiko to deliver the Manor Royal Heat Network, a major low carbon infrastructure project that can provide low carbon heat to businesses and communities in the Manor Royal and North Crawley in the years ahead.
Heat networks are a low carbon alternative to individual gas boilers. They provide heating and hot water to buildings through a network of underground insulated pipes, using locally available heat sources that would otherwise go unused. As the UK transitions towards net zero, heat networks are expected to play an important role in decarbonising towns, cities, and business districts like Manor Royal.
Hemiko is one of the UK's leading heat network developers and operators. The company invests in, builds, and manages town- and city-scale heat networks, helping communities reduce carbon emissions while supporting local economic growth. Hemiko is already involved in heat network projects across West Sussex, including the Crawley Town Centre Heat Network and the Worthing Heat Network.
Looking ahead
The Manor Royal Heat Network remains a long-term opportunity for the business district. Current plans anticipate the network reaching the Manor Royal area from around 2030, creating the potential for businesses to connect to a reliable source of low carbon heat, however this could be even earlier if there is sufficient demand among the Manor Royal business community. The anticipated timeframe reflects the phased development of the heat network and its expansion into Manor Royal.
As plans continue to develop, Hemiko is keen to understand the heating and hot water requirements of businesses across Manor Royal. Building a clear picture of future demand will help shape how the network evolves and ensure it meets the needs of local employers.
