Feeling the buzz
Manor Royal based Corniche Construction has been so caught by the buzz of Crawley Wasps - one of the most successful all-female football clubs in Sussex - they've sponsored them!
Marc Smith, Commercial Director, explains: "During the World Cup summer of 2018, my ten year old daughter turned to me as I was watching another game and enthusiastically said "I'd like to play football" she'd never shown any interest before but as it was half time I did a quick google search of "girls football Crawley" and Crawley Wasps appeared at the top of the search. A quick email followed and within 24 hrs the club had responded.
"Weekly training sessions followed with U11's & U12's groups throughout the summer and it didn't take me very long to realise that everyone involved in the club was hugely passionate about girls / ladies' football & I couldn't help but get swept along with their enthusiasm.
"Being a big (men's) football fan of 40 years I'd completely ignored the possibility that there could be anything remotely interesting about following a ladies team! How wrong was I, as I watched my daughter improve weekly and begin to love everything about the game & being a part of the club, I found myself beginning to take notice of not just the under 11's but all of the Wasps other teams results! I was becoming hooked and it only took overhearing one of the coaches talk about how they were looking for new kit for the U11's convinced me I had to get our company involved with a sponsorship deal.
"We have instantly been made to feel like an important part of the club, it's a very exciting time to be involved with the Wasps. I encourage you to join us."
With girls and ladies teams across a number of age ranges, it is perhaps the Crawley Wasps Women's side that has attracted most attention this year having put up a good show in the FA Cup against Arsenal Ladies, reached a League Cup Final and currently unbeaten in the league with promotion a distinct possibility. Seems like a good time to be involved!
