People Forum Packs The House!

It was a full house earlier this week for the latest Manor Royal BID People Forum!   A group of HR professionals and managers from companies located across the Business District came together to hear from Susie Pipe, Local Enterprise Partnership Policy Manager from the 'Fuller Working Lives and State Pension Division' of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Susie spoke about a new Government initiative which helps employers attract and retain their mid-life and older workers aged 50+.  Manor Royal has been chosen by the DWP to pilot a new Older Workers initiative in conjunction with the National Careers Service and Coast to Capital LEP. 

The ground-breaking initiative helps individuals identify what new skills they would like to acquire and how they can access local training opportunities.  It also helps employers to adapt their HR policies and working procedures to make them more relevant to the changing needs of their staff.

Research has shown that as the UK workforce ages and fewer younger people enter the labour market, employers will increasingly need to rely on the skills and experience of older workers if they are to remain competitive, increase productivity and growth, and avoid skills shortages in the future. 

While there are more people aged 50+ in work than ever before, there are still significant numbers of older workers leaving their jobs prematurely – a decision that can affect them both financially and socially.  

Over a working lunch, guests also heard more about the upcoming Manor Royal Careers Expo being held on 17 May, and the Run Gatwick event.
