Manor Royal MD helps to raise £90k for children's hospice after 50km trek

Manor Royal MD helps to raise £90k for children's hospice after 50km trek

More than £90,000 was raised for the Chestnut Tree House thanks to a group of intrepid fundraisers, including the Managing Director of Manor Royal-based Beta Futures.

Maris Harris and other members of her group endured five days of trekking 50km along the Great Wall of China with one common goal of raising funds for the only children's hospice in Sussex.

The co-founder of the 50+ Skills Exchange Club said the trek brought together a vast range of individuals from different backgrounds and walks of life, and that what surprised her the most was the incredible emotional journey that accompanied the physical challenge.

"Over the week the bond that the group formed and the support that they gave each other was simply amazing and lifelong friendships have been formed," she added. "Group members faced varying degrees of personal challenge but everyone was rewarded with knowing that they had raised money for an amazing cause and gained a true sense of achievement."

During the trek, the group got the opportunity to help rebuild part of the Great Wall and they brought along special and sentimental objects to place under their brick.

They also placed foil hearts and stars in the wall to symbolise children that are currently being cared for by the hospice and those who are no longer with us.

Marie continued: "I am very grateful to all the individuals who contributed, and a big thank you to Basepoint Business Centre that match funded donations. It really was an experience of a lifetime."

The group raised £93,000, which is enough to run Chestnut Tree House for almost two weeks. It costs £6,850 for the house to provide its services for one day.
