Manor Royal park up for national award

Manor Royal park up for national award

Manor Royal's People's Park has been shortlisted for a national award. The park, also known as Crawter's Brook, is in the running to win one of British Business Improvement Districts' (BIDs) Proud Projects Awards.

Every year British BIDs, a national organisation representing the Business Improvement District industry, celebrates good practice and outstanding projects throughout the UK. The People's Park has made it onto the shortlist from over 70 entries from around the country as judged by a panel of business and industry experts.

Manor Royal BID's Executive Director Steve Sawyer was delighted to hear the news. "This nomination once again highlights the fantastic team effort, strong partnerships and community support that has helped to create this tranquil open-space in a busy business district," he said.

"From the beginning of the BID, we've been committed to improving the environment of Manor Royal Business District for both the businesses and those that work here. In a short space of time, the area has become much used and enjoyed by local people and the park wildlife is thriving."

The project, which was designed and delivered by the Manor Royal BID, benefited from grant funding from West Sussex County Council and the co-operation of Crawley Borough Council.

The park on Manor Royal was formally opened last year by HRH, The Duke of Gloucester. This week's announcement comes after the green space scooped a silver award in the conservation area category at this year's South and South East in Bloom competition.

The creation of the People's Park is just one of a number of projects the Manor Royal BID is delivering over a five year period to improve the area as a place to trade and work. The team will find out if they have won the award during British BIDs' annual conference on Thursday 5 November.
