People's Park hailed as bloomin' lovely
Manor Royal's People's Park was honoured at this year's South and South East in Bloom competition.
The park, also known as Crawter's Brook, scooped a silver award in the conservation area category during a special ceremony at Brighton & Hove Albion's American Express Community Stadium on Friday 11 September.
It was the second time Manor Royal entered the annual competition in its own right and executive director Steve Sawyer said the success was down to brilliant team effort, strong partnerships and fantastic community support.
"It is a great achievement and recognition of the hard work that has gone into creating a great facility in Manor Royal for companies and staff in a way that respects the natural environment," he said. "The award is also an endorsement of the Manor Royal BID's commitment to improve the area for those that work and do business here."
Earlier in the year a South and South East in Bloom judge Jean Griffin was given a tour of the People's Park and heard about the merits of the green space, as well as its conservation value and importance to the area
Mr Sawyer added: "This award is further recognition of that fact that the People's Park is becoming an excellent area for local business employees to visit and enjoy some tranquility.
"It also sparks their interest in their natural environment whilst taking time out of the office and the BID will continue to create volunteering opportunities for more businesses to help further establish the park and attract more wildlife."
The competition is the cornerstone of communities and districts across the region but is also part of the largest horticultural campaign in Europe.
Entries are invited each year across Sussex, Kent, Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Surrey, Dorset and Wiltshire for communities to make positive and lasting sustainable improvements to their environments. Expert judges tour the region and award marks based on a range of criteria.
