TLC Retain Title
TLC, based on Newton Road, became the first team to ever win the annual Manor Royal 6-a-side football tournament twice with a 2-1 victory against CGG in the final at K2 Leisure Centre.
Undefeated during the group stages without conceding a goal, TLC powered past Pharmacare 2-0 in the semi-final before contesting a hard fought final against CGG to retain the title.
Now in its eighth year, the competition is open to companies from across the Business District for honour of taking the cup back to the office, warehouse, showroom, workshop or factory.
This year 15 teams and 120 footballers came together from a diverse mix of businesses including: TLC, CGG, B and CE, Natwest, Motorline Volkswagen, Kreston Reeves, Elekta, Pharmacare (Europe), Motorline Toyota Intermedia, Edmundson Electrical, Frontier Pitts, Raven Roofing, Vistec, and Westcon.
The tournament was first played in 2012 and since then over 100 teams and 920 footballers have taken part. The annual tournament is organised by the Manor Royal BID and this year was delivered by Everyone Active.
Charlie Iron, captain of the winning TLC team said, "A massive thanks to the organisers. It was yet again a pleasure to take part and to win it for the second year running feels marvellous. We now have two trophies proudly displayed on our trade counter. A shout out to our team as we performed immaculately and congratulations to CGG who are the only team to score against us in open play in the last two years. We would like to issue a challenge for any company on the manor royal to come and take the trophy off of us, we fully plan on making it three in a row."
Dave Downey Active Communities Manager of Everyone Active, said: "It was great to work with the Manor Royal BID and to support companies and staff on Manor Royal. Everyone Active look forward to exploring with the BID other ways we can improve the health and wellbeing of companies and staff in the Business District."
Any companies from Manor Royal that want to take part in a future tournament, or have other ideas for other sports or leisure activities should contact the Manor Royal BID Office.
