Manor Royal Champs Crowned

Manor Royal Champs Crowned

Councillor Brian Quinn, Mayor of Crawley, crowned Dyer & Butler Electrical champions in the fiercely contested annual Manor Royal 6-a-side football tournament. The tournament in its sixth year is delivered by the Manor Royal BID Company in partnership with Freedom Leisure and is designed to create connections between companies across the Business District and promote employee well-being.

The competition is open to any business in the Manor Royal Business District and since it began in 2012 over 80 teams and 650 footballers have competed to get their name on the shield. This year Dyer & Butler Electrical ran out two-one winners against TLC after going one behind in the final.

“We had a great evening playing some competitive football.” Sean Frankland from Dyer and Butler Electrical said. “The Event helped us create a good team spirit within our company. We look forward to trying to defend the title next year.”

To date, no team has won the Manor Royal 6-a-side tournament twice and attracts a wide variety of teams reflecting the diversity of companies based in the Business District. This year Dyer and Butler Electrical had to beat off teams from Deloitte UK, Go Vauxhall, The Best Connection, TLC, Vega Europe, Raven Roofing Supplies, Creative Technology, Mastercool Southern, ILG, Avios and Toyota among others.

“Like Manor Royal itself this event has gone from strength to strength” said Steve Sawyer Executive Director of the Manor Royal BID.  “We were especially honoured to have the Mayor of Crawley along this year who was, like me, impressed with the friendly yet competitive nature the games were played.”

This was the final tournament before companies in Manor Royal vote to extend the Manor Royal BID for a second five year term in an area-wide ballot scheduled to take place in February 2018.
