Manor Royal to Benefit from Major Crawley Regeneration Programme

Manor Royal to Benefit from Major Crawley Regeneration Programme

Manor Royal is set to benefit from a significant regeneration programme for Crawley.  The Crawley Growth Programme is a £60m investment package of infrastructure improvements and physical regeneration designed to deliver new homes, business investment and employment growth.

The project, supported by West Sussex County Council, Crawley Borough Council, the Manor Royal BID, Metrobus and Gatwick Airport, was boosted by an announcement last week that Coast to Capital LEP is to contribute £14.64 million from the Local Growth Fund.

Sustainable transport infrastructure and highway upgrades are planned to boost overall transport capacity and enable a shift from car usage to bus, rail, cycling and walking.  In addition, connectivity enhancements at the major railway stations of Crawley, Three Bridges and Gatwick will greatly facilitate commuter access to Manor Royal and the town centre.

Manor Royal will also benefit from upgrades to the quality of the business environment to help and attract and retain business and enhance the satisfaction of the Business District as a place to work and trade. The Manor Royal Transport Study and BID Business Survey were key elements of the business case for investing in the business district.

Manor Royal BID Executive Director Steve Sawyer said: “This is a great result for Manor Royal and Crawley as a whole. Manor Royal is a major contributor of jobs, employment space and to the success of local and regional economy. Our focus is to continually strive for the best outcomes for Manor Royal and to make sure everyone understand how important it is. This is the clearest demonstrate of that providing a great platform for joint working and for delivering the improvements we know we need.”

Coast to Capital Chief Executive Jonathan Sharrock said: "We are delighted to be able to confirm funding for this Growth Programme which will unlock new homes, jobs and commercial floor space to secure Crawley’s sustainable economic growth.  Investment in key local infrastructure is vital in maximising the potential of Crawley and Manor Royal.  The strategic importance of Crawley to our region provides a strong case for investment on this scale and we are excited about the future development and growth in the town."

Councillor Peter Lamb, Leader of Crawley Borough Council, said: “Crawley Borough Council is committed to doing all we can to improve the lives of our residents, ensuring Crawley remains a great place to live, work and play. By working with our partners at Coast to Capital and West Sussex we can deliver together the homes and better jobs local residents need.”

Louise Goldsmith, Leader of West Sussex County Council, said: “This is an exciting time for Crawley. This programme will generate significant growth in the local economy, create new jobs and boost productivity. As well as improvements to transport links, the town centre and the Manor Royal environment, it will also unlock investment opportunities which will truly allow the area to prosper.

“We have worked closely with Crawley Borough Council since we signed our District Deal at the end of last year, culminating in this bid to the LEP. I am delighted to be working with all of our partners on this important project and the scale of this shows what can be achieved when organisations work together to deliver projects and services for the people of Crawley - and West Sussex as a whole - in the best and most efficient way possible.”
